The Nuclear Company said on Oct. 21 that it plans a 6.6-GW nuclear campus called Prosperity One in Lewis County, Kentucky, with room for up to six Westinghouse AP1000 reactors along the Ohio River. The developer said it has secured control of the site and intends to pursue the federal approvals needed to start construction in 2028, according to its announcement and POWER Magazine's report.

If all six reactors were built, Prosperity One would exceed Vogtle's capacity by 2.1 GW.

If all six units were built, POWER noted, the site would be the largest nuclear generating station in the United States. Georgia's Plant Vogtle, the current largest, has about 4.5 GW of net summer capacity across four reactors, two of them AP1000 units. The company said the campus would be Kentucky's first commercial nuclear power project.
